Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie's Gruesome Twosome tour is coming through Duluth for a concert that starts at 7:45 p.m. May 12 at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center Arena. Tickets go on sale Saturday at Ticketmaster outlets.  

Among hard-core music fans, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame probably is about as popular as a skin rash. For every beloved band it inducts -- Stones, Zeppelin, Sabbath -- it leaves out a Rush or a Deep Purple, while inducting such perceived non-rockers as Madonna and Grandmaster Flash. While influence and significance are supposed to be key criteria, some bands seem to get in based on sales or popularity with the committee, headed by Jann Wenner, and its 500 "experts."  

 

Usually, being in the pubic eye is something that causes you to look over yourself a little more and even helps you dress a little better. Many of us look up to celebrities (especially Michigan celebrities) for their style advice, and mimic it in our own life. In some cases, fashion icons start bad trends.

Vega 95.3 FM, Sydney's $100 million experiment in baby boomer radio, has finally been put out of its misery. After nearly five years of poor ratings, multiple line-ups and rumours of its impending demise, staff at the ailing stations in Sydney and Melbourne were told yesterday that Vega would be replaced with a new station, Classic Rock 95.3, from 6am today. Rolling Stone is reporting that Mark Linkous , the mastermind behind Sparklehorse , took his own life on Saturday. This is terribly sad news and comes just months after Vic Chesnutt (who had worked with Linkous in the past) killed himself. And, as in Chesnutt's case, just a look at song titles and a listen to lyrics reveal that Linkous made no secret about his sadness – "Heart of Darkness", "I Almost Lost My Mind", "Sick of Goodbyes".

Playing Mr. Wonderful for one day every February is something most married men manage to do. Given the excuse of Valentine's Day to focus 24 hours of their attention on their spouses, average men som---ehow muster the energy and creativity to direct airplanes to sky-write love poems, persuade strolling violinists to serenade their sweethearts and boost chocolate sales to record highs.
